GRADUATION, EXAM & DIPLOMA

Yes, after successfully completing the exam, you conclude with a diploma, which can be of great advantage when applying for a job and which also serves as a certificate of quality for the customers in the studio and conveys security.

The certificate will be activated on the course platform after the exam has been completed and is available for download as a PDF document.

Yes, the course ends with an exam (not compulsory).

The final examination comprises three parts:
Theoretical exam: Single-answer and multiple-choice questions;
Alterations exam: Questions about pattern modification and alterations;
Practical exam: Assessment and evaluation of (photos of) three garments: one pair of pants, one jacket and one dress. Only specific garments are eligible for testing.

There is an online test in which some practical questions are asked about the course content. Anyone who took the course, watched the videos and showed some diligence will surely pass the test.

In a later video in the course, we will show you how to sharpen your eye for perfect workmanship. So you can evaluate your own skills. There is a detailed questionnaire for self-assessment. One is usually stricter with oneself than a teacher would be.

In Germany, as in many other countries, you have to register your business, but you do not need any special training. The Tailor Academy is particularly important here because it offers the tools for later success.

No. In the Tailor Academy you will build up skills and a fund of sewing patterns that you will always need.

After completing the two-year Tailor Academy course, you have built up a pool of cuts, a lot of knowledge and sewing skills. In Austria, the master’s examination can be taken at the age of 18. The chambers of commerce offer preparatory courses for those who lack knowledge and expertise.

This varies from country to country. In Germany, for example, it would be no problem to register the business. In Austria, however, you still need a certificate of completion of an apprenticeship (or a master craftsman’s certificate). You can compete for this test. We recommend that you get in touch with the local examination office, so it is best to ask the Chamber of Commerce (Austria) or the Chamber of commerce (Germany) nachfragen. Preparatory courses for the exam are also often offered.

The course is structured in a similar way to a tailor’s vocational training programme. This means that you learn to sew well on the basis of the practice-oriented training and also how to change cuts. In the course, we provide an additional, tried and tested pattern in every size in every unit. During the course you also learn how to adapt and change these cuts to different types of figures. We attach great importance to conveying the modification of the cuts (whether depending on the figure or the model) and the sewing practice. In order to enable a well-founded tailor training, the program is already very dense, which is why there is no longer any room for drawing and creating a pattern in this two-year course.

In Germany, as in many other countries, you have to register your business, but you do not need any special training. The tailoring academy is particularly important here because it offers the tools for later success.

In Austria you need a master’s examination to practice the tailoring trade. The Tailor Academy course offers profound practical knowledge, but does not replace any of the 5 modules of the master’s examination. You can obtain information about preparatory courses and exams from the respective regional offices of the economic chambers.

The diploma can be of great advantage when applying for a job and also subsequently serve as a certificate of quality for customers in the studio and convey security.

COSTS, PAYMENT & SUBSCRIPTION

No additional documents are required. All patterns are included in the course fees and the theory flows into the course where it can be practiced immediately.

For the material, an average of between $50 – $80 (USD) per unit can be expected. This depends to a large extent on the fabric used; existing fabrics can of course also be used. With each unit, you sew another piece of clothing that far exceeds the cost of the fabric and course.

Which equipment should be available for the start, please see the questions below.

The course is building-up, so there is no option to book individual units.
The aim of the course is to convey the craft in all its facets. It is advisable to go through all units or at least watch all videos to get the professional tips. Many of our participants sew models that you may not want to make for yourself, for their friends.

Option 1: Full Masterclass
One-time payment.  This is the most extensive professional online tailoring program on the market and the “full deal” if you want to learn all the tricks from a professional tailor.
Units are unlocked every two weeks, so the course takes 104 weeks in total.

Option 2: Yearly Plan
Debited twice, once now and once exactly one year later. It is the same course as above.  If you cancel your subscription anytime between now and in one year, the second year will not be debited and not be unlocked. You can continue later with the “Yearly Plan” or the “Unit by unit” plan.

Option 3: Unit by unit
Debited every 14 days (every time a new unit is unlocked) for a maximum of 52 payments if not cancelled before that. This means you can unlock exactly as many units as you want. It is the same course as above. The Bonus Videos are paired with units – so by unlocking the units you will receive access to the same bonus videos. You can also start with the yearly plan and switch to the “Unit by unit” plan later.

The prices can be found at tailor-academy.com

All prices on the site are quoted in US Dollars (USD).

Yes, every new unit is a new garment and included are always the instructions video as well as the patterns in all sizes from very small to very large (EU sizes 32 – 52). We also provide you with a materials list for every unit.
New units are unlocked every 14 days (regardless of which package you choose). Thereby you have the time to sew and internalize the new knowledge before continuing to the next step. To become really handy we advise you to sew each unit more than once.

We accept PayPal and Credit Cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Maestro, Discover & Diners). If your payment method is not listed or you are having troubles with our payment provider, please contact us at [email protected]

You will receive a full 7-day money-back guarantee with no ifs or buts for any of our packages, so that you can give it a try risk-free! Options 1 – 4 are only debited once. If you choose Option 5 “Unit by unit”: You can cancel anytime in your account settings and cancelled automatically after the full 52 units were unlocked.

The next unit will be activated after 14 days, this is the only option of the system. If you can’t get to sewing, it doesn’t matter, but we recommend at least watching the videos so that you can find out all the professional tips. All course contents remain available during the course and also after the course has been completed (i.e. even after two years).

Unfortunately, this payment option is not available on the part of the program.

Evening wear is primarily characterized by the material used – you can of course use any material. Each unit brings more professional tips with it, which is why it is definitely worth watching the videos at least. “Evening wear” is a small and later part of the course.

The subscription system only works via credit card or PayPal.

There is the possibility of paying by bank transfer if you opt for the entire 2-year course as a one-time payment and you send us the confirmation of payment by email. You will find this payment option in the offer for the full membership.

Your 6-week money-back guarantee is of course not limited by this.

There is no function in the system to change this independently. Unfortunately, switching from the 14-day to the annual subscription does not work. What we can offer is the change to the two-year full membership, i.e. a one-off payment (the previous payments through the subscription are of course taken into account). If you are interested, please send us an email to [email protected] and we will send you the further details. You can then continue the course as usual.

A course break function is not available and if the course is canceled, you cannot return to where you left off later. If you can’t get to sewing, it doesn’t matter, but at least watch the videos so you get all the professional tips. All videos remain available even after the course has been completed and can therefore be accessed at any time.

Some of our participants want to start with a delay for personal reasons. With the 1- and 2-year variant, you can still use the current offer. Simply register and then write us an email to [email protected] with the information that you want to start later.
You then decide when to start with the first unit.

This is possible with the 1- and 2-year variant. If you buy the course as a gift for someone else, please register with your own e-mail address and then send us an e-mail with the details of the person receiving the gift to [email protected], then we will set it up for you.
The person receiving the gift can then decide at any time when they want to start the first session.

COURSE CONTENT

The course includes 52 units (released after 14 days) + special content.

We learn dresses, trousers, blouses, jackets, dirndls, vests and evening dresses, followed by men’s clothing and high fashion. Detailed step-by-step Video tutorials from the master tailor, each module is a new, chic garment.

Proven patterns in all sizes, material lists including fabric consumption, cutting images and tips and secrets from the traditional company. Measuring and adapting the pattern to a person. At the end of the course there will be an online test. You graduate with a diploma.

A summary of the pieces we are going to sew can be found here:

The video tutorials usually last between 45 and 120 minutes. In almost every unit you will learn to sew a new piece of clothing, so plan more time for the realization. If you can’t get to sewing, it doesn’t matter, but at least watch the videos so you get all the professional tips.

Ideally, we recommend sewing 3-4 hours per week. More time to practice is an advantage. But even if you don’t get to practice, you can make up for it later, as the videos remain accessible during and after the course.

The course starts with registration. The first unit will then be unlocked immediately.

The course takes place completely online using detailed video sewing instructions as well as cutting patterns, cutting position images and material lists in PDF form.

Yes, dirndls as well as men’s traditional vests and jackets will also appear in this course in a later phase.

The course includes some traditional costumes as well as Dirndl, Janker (men’s jacket) and traditional vests. However, the focus is not on traditional costumes but above all on learning the craft thoroughly and building up a wealth of various patterns.

In the second year of the course, men’s models are also presented and sewn. 90% of the basic terms between men’s and women’s tailors are the same, so even as a future men’s tailor, one learns very important basics in the first year, which are then applied in the same way.

Yes, as a bespoke tailoring company since 1741, it is particularly important to us that the clothes fit perfectly. Therefore, during the course, you learn exactly how to measure people’s dimensions and how to transfer them to the patterns.

There is an additional video from the start that explains how to use the size chart. After just 14 days, we will explain exactly how you can change the pattern for yourself and take the correct measurements.

A PDF document “Material list, material consumption and cutting position” is attached to each unit. The instructions take place using precise video sewing instructions, because we have found that texts usually cause a lot of confusion and videos can show movements that cannot be put into words. You are also welcome to send us an email with your questions. There is also an FAQ for each unit from the frequently asked questions.

The first unit (A-line dress) including some additional topics will be activated for you when you buy the course. After completing your purchase, you will immediately receive an email with the link to the course. The next unit will then be activated every 14 days. In addition to the units, there are also some bonus videos in between (e.g. how to adjust the tension of the sewing machine perfectly, etc.)

The course is structured in a similar way to a tailor’s apprenticeship. This means that you learn to sew well on the basis of the practice-oriented training and also how to change cuts. In the course, we provide an additional, tried and tested pattern in every size in every unit. During the course you also learn how to adapt and change these cuts to different types of bodys. We attach great importance to conveying the modification of the cuts (whether depending on the body form or the model) and the sewing practice. In order to enable a well-founded tailor training, the program is already very dense, so there is no longer any room for drawing and making a pattern in this building-up, two-year course. It is already planned that we will devote ourselves to this topic in a continuation of the course.

The cutting patterns in all sizes are attached to each unit as a PDF file in A4 and A0. The A4 file consists of numbered sheets of paper that can easily be printed with your own printer, then glued together and then cut out. The A0 file (A1 for smaller patterns) is intended for large plotters. If someone wants to set up their own studio professionally and have the patterns readily available in all sizes, it is advisable to have the A0 files printed in a copy shop.

All cuts are available from size 32 to size 52. You can either print it yourself in A4 or have it printed in A0 in a print shop. The PDFs are included in every unit. We’ll also show you how to customize the pattern yourself.

The system works with activation after 14 days each. If you don’t have time to sew, that’s no problem. However, we recommend that you at least watch the videos to get all the profit tips.

You are completely free of time. A new unit is activated after every 14 days and does not have to be online.

All course contents remain available during the course and also after the course has been completed (i.e. even after the two years).

All course content remains available during the course and also after the course has been completed (after two years).

If you can’t get to sewing, it doesn’t matter, but at least watch the videos so you get all the professional tips. All videos remain available even after the course has been completed and can therefore be accessed at any time.

There is no guarantee for lifelong access, because such a promise would not be serious. However, we have a young IT technology team, so there is a good chance that all content will be retained for a very long time.

Yes, each unit is accompanied by a PDF document “Materials list, fabric consumption and cutting position.” It contains all the information you need to purchase the materials. In addition, each course unit includes a video in which the master tailor Stefan Wimmer gives several tips for the material. Already at the beginning of the course, in addition to the first unit, the video “ Your studio equipment” is unlocked. In this video, Stefan Wimmer explains exactly what you need to get started.

During the course, master tailor Stefan Wimmer teaches interesting facts about the materials in the practice-oriented videos of each unit. In addition to the videos of each course unit, additional bonus videos are released, in which knowledge on different topics is conveyed, such as material explanation.

The list of materials can be obtained with activation of the respective unit. You can also find information on the fabrics in the video tutorial. The units remain available even after completion of the course.

We use the GRAFIS CAD Software, the most professional program on the market to draw patterns. With the program we digitize our frequently used patterns and then export them in all sizes (size 32 to size 52) in A4 and large plotter format (A0) as easy-to-use PDF documents.

Due to the step-by-step video sewing instructions there are very seldom questions. From the questions that have been asked, there is also a FAQ for each unit.  If you cannot find the answer to your question in the FAQs, you can also send us an email with your questions to [email protected]. We look forward to your feedback.

IS THE COURSE SUITABLE FOR ME. WHAT DO I NEED

A lack of equipment shouldn’t prevent you from starting. All you need to get started is a small household machine, iron, ironing board, scissors, ruler, tailor’s chalk, needles and thread. The equipment can be expanded at any time during the course. At the beginning of the course you will learn more about the studio equipment.

Basically any household machine is sufficient to get started. The household sewing machines that we can particularly recommend are: Pfaff select 4.2. (reliable, very robustly built, without electronics) and Elna eXperience 560 (versatile, with electronic functions).

You do not need a degree to take the course.

The course is designed to be used both for:
1. People with previous knowledge who have learned to sew either themselves or with the help of, for example, YouTube videos and now want to learn the craft correctly from the bottom up from a master tailor and

2. People who start from scratch, are enthusiastic about the tailoring trade and want to learn it right from the start (and never had the chance to learn the trade through a tailoring apprenticeship, for example). Because you can watch the videos of the units again and again and gradually unlock additional, supporting bonus videos, you can also start this course from scratch.

A household machine is sufficient to start the course. No problem if someone has neither the machine nor the studio equipment before the start of the course. With the help of an additional video, master tailor Stefan Wimmer explains exactly what you will need.

The most important prerequisites are enthusiasm for the craft and the willingness to learn.

Especially now! We have many participants in the course who are well over 65 and learn to sew from scratch. The great thing about this course is that you can watch every step in the video over and over and work at your own pace.

You learn the craft in our course from scratch with all the tips and tricks from the master tailor – we are therefore convinced that the course will be of interest to you.

Yes, you can also use your cell phone. If you don’t have a printer, you will likely want to send the patterns straight to a print shop. To do this, you can download the desired size (s) and either email it to the desired printer or upload it to their website / app.

You learn the craft in our course from scratch with all the tips and tricks from the master tailor – therefore we are convinced that the course will be interesting for you.

The course consits of building lesson units which increase in difficulty, so at the beginning there may be pieces that are not difficult, but you will learn professional tips from the master tailor from the first unit.

You can also make use of the 6-week money-back guarantee (with no questions asked).
