At Tailor Academy, we believe that being a tailor is the most wonderful profession in the world. At the company headquarters of Wimmer schneidert in Salzburg, the humming and buzzing of sewing machines fills the air from dusk till dawn. We often notice our master tailors getting lost in their work, a subtle smile on their lips.
We stem from a long line of master dressmakers and our mission is simple: to share that passion with as many people as possible. For that to happen, educating one or two apprentices per year is just not enough so we’ve decided to try a different path: a professional online sewing course for all levels, designed to share the entire knowledge of a craft with the world.
Why we share our know-how
We are often asked and sometimes even criticized why we share all our knowledge. As one of the oldest tailor’s shops in the world, we have collected generations of knowledge, practice and experience. As an award-winning teaching company, apprentices, masters and designers have been trained here for 9 generations.
Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer training companies to learn the tailoring from scratch. And we, too, can only accept and train 1-2 new apprentices in our manufacture in Salzburg every year.

When we first announced that we’d share our knowledge of the tailoring craft, the reactions ranged from curiosity to criticism, but for us, it was a question of ensuring the future of the trade: as one of the oldest tailor’s shops in the world, we have collected generations’ worth of knowledge and practical experience, passing on this wealth of knowledge to our numerous award-winning apprentices, master tailors and designers over the years. Back in 1741, a tailor shop opened its doors in the little town of Schleedorf in Salzburg/Austria. Unbeknownst to the founder, it would become the foundation for the dressmaker dynasty Wimmer, now in its 9th generation of master tailors.
