Stefan Wimmer · Ninth-generation master tailor
A ninth-generation
master tailor.
Stefan learned his craft from his father and grandfather. Trained in both womenswear and menswear, he spent decades making bespoke clothing at Wimmer schneidert, the internationally known tailoring business in Salzburg, Austria. Further training in tailoring, teaching, public speaking and management complements his practical experience.
That experience includes more than 30,000 fittings and garment-cutting sessions. He has trained dozens of apprentices, mentored qualified tailors and master tailors, and serves as an examiner for aspiring master tailors. His apprentices have repeatedly won awards for their work.
He brings all of this to the courses: the small techniques that make a difference, an understanding of fabric and fit, and the ability to explain why something works.
Keeping this knowledge alive.
We founded Tailor Academy in 2020 with the Masterclass. We were concerned that, as traditional training workshops closed, valuable tailoring knowledge would disappear with them.
We make that knowledge available online to people who enjoy sewing and want to become really good at it, wherever they live.
Today, thousands of students learn with us in three languages and more than 20 countries.

Tailor Academy began as a joint project between Stefan and three of his five children, with plenty of support from his wife, Monika.

The team behind your courses.
Stefan Junior brings his marketing expertise, Leonhard his skill as a bespoke tailor, and Sebastian looks after the technology. Monika, Stefan’s wife, contributes her experience in design. Stefan himself shares his knowledge as the master tailor teaching the courses.

Our roots: a working bespoke atelier.
Tailoring has been part of our family’s story since 1741. At Wimmer schneidert in the Salzburg region, that tradition is still practised every day. More than 20 tailors make garments in-house, from design and cutting to the final finishing details. This is where Stefan worked for decades, trained apprentices and developed the knowledge that now shapes Tailor Academy.
His daughter Monika now leads the family business in its tenth generation. The workshop remains a place where tailoring skills are used, preserved and passed on.
